Holiday

What to you is a holiday?

  1. That is a very good summary. Holidays mean different things to different people. We prefer to travel independently, to see new places, and holidays have perhaps become more important to us since we retired. We will miss your podcasts during your break. When will you resume? Might you squeeze in a traditional holiday somewhere soon, between all your family and other commitments?

  2. Holidays have indeed evolved over the years, and I think it’s all about perspective and preference. A break, physical or mental, from the usual routine; time off work, in whatever context; fluttering off abroad or closer to home (or, goshkins, even at home, with some creativity and a firm resolve to not get sucked back into the day to day usual); luxury or more rustic, or somewhere in between. I don’t think distance, time, nor cost, determines it. An escape from the mundane; something to, hopefully, sparkle up life a bit, like adding a dash of freshly squeezed lemon juice into your water.
But, in terms of religious holidays – and, as i think you know I’m not religious (though I do consider myself spiritual) – the two I’m most drawn to would be Holi, the Hindu festival of colour, celebrating the return of Spring and good vs evil; and Diapavoli, or Diwali, the Hindu festival of light, celebrating light over darkness.
I’ll look forward to your podcasts when you get back to them after your reset, Ant.
