Very clearly and concisely put Ant. It immediately brought to my mind, from years back, both The Laughing Policemen song and a hysterical Laurel and Hardy sketch, where Stan subsides into helpless laughter. I did read something once about the evolutionary usefulness of laughter, but of course, I’ve forgotten it. No joke, getting old!!
I think that Groucho Marx might have laughed at Laughter Therapy. I like your image, by the way. There is some overlap between laughing and appreciating humour, but you can laugh when things are not actually funny, and you can enjoy humour without laughing. Laughing is just one way of expressing your feelings. It sounds as though laughter is slightly similar to a cat’s purring.
