Castling

I celebrate my love of castles and what it means to me

  1. I agree with your comments about castles, and I find them interesting for the same reasons as yourself. I went to many castles with my parents and brother, on camping holidays and other trips. Castles indeed come in different shapes and sizes, and you have lots of new ones to see in Sussex and the South-East. In French, a château can be anything from a pile of stones and little else, to a huge statement of wealth and power – the word is the same. The Howards certainly got around, and Castle Howard in Yorkshire is still owned by a Howard family company.

  2. Very good Ant. I like the way you link your own recent past – guiding at Framlingham, touring at Arundel – with the centuries old one of the Norfolks, joining together in the portrait of Thomas Howard glanced at Arundel. Then you bring it all back down to earth in fitting a bath into your new home! “History keeps going” indeed!
