Ant Powder

We do need some of it, some of the time

  1. So many meanings for Ant. We have had ants here, but we used a spray rather than powder. It is ridiculously hot and humid in London today, and near Tunbridge Wells, where we were going to meet, would have been even worse. Those like you who live near the coast have done well. ANT = Assessed for Nicer Temperatures.

  2. My first thought when I saw the title of your latest podcast was, ‘How intriguing; perhaps Ant has done a talk on something wonderful about the powers of powdered ants and their significance in the medicines of ancient cultures!’ (it was a thing)… not that you did in fact mean the powder used for deterring ants.

They (ants) can be so intrusive (I am aware of the irony there… ants were building their tunnels long before we were building our homes upon their habitats, and yet they are the intrusive ones?!). As you say, it is rather unhygienic to have them trooping through one’s home, possibly on kitchen counters, and so on, and they can be quite destructive. Did you know that they evolved from Vespoid wasp ancestors in the Cretaceous period? I did not.

Regarding ANT, Automatic Negative Thought, taming them is a work in progress. I have found that a daily t’ai chi practise works best for me. Hormones also play a role in the control of emotions and thoughts, and as we age and go through the changes associated with aging, both male and female, fluctuating hormones can take us on a roller coaster of negativity and catastrophising. Learning to ride those waves, rather than resist them is a masters’ level course!

Good to hear you back at your microphone creating your Antcasts.
