Making Use

It’s good, for our well-being and environment, to make new use of old, discarded things

  1. Very well done indeed, Ant. I value the concept of upcycling, reducing, reusing and recycling where possible. Upcycling, or just finding another use for something, can be challenging – it requires looking at a thing completely differently, and I love that.
In this world where things are often made to be single use, to find multiple uses is quite marvellous, but the only two I can think of at the moment are my recycled wine bottle Christmas tree, which you may remember having seen when you visited, and repurposing empty milk jugs into bird feeders.
It is always quite a pleasing feeling to give something that would otherwise end up in the bin, a new lease on life, even if only temporarily.
    👍👍👍

  2. Well done. We have not moved for a long time, and we are not good at throwing things out. And we are not so practical either. We will stay put and hope for the best.

  3. Well done Ant. Three cheers for re-purposing. The only problem is that re-purposing requires that we never throw things away; yet, at our age, it’s highly unlikely we’ll remember where we’ve put the thing that we now realise could be put to a different use! This is an extension of the almost infallible rule that you will only ever find something you’ve mislaid AFTER you’ve laid out money for its replacement!

Oh, and it’s interesting what you say about battery smoke alarms. The ones we’ve had over the years had to be tested annually using a smoking joss stick. Crazy man!
