Taking it in turns

It’s the little things that count. In both senses here!

  1. A lovely memory for you to hold on to, Ant. Glad you arrived safe and sound, and I hope the drivers who were involved in the collision you mentioned, were okay.
I had a quite a formal relationship with my grandparents, in contrast, though as small children my brother and I stayed a night or two over the years (we did not live in the same town/city) with my grandparents – I remember a particular moment during one such visit where I was sat in the hall at some hour of the night when I ought to have been in bed, admiring a wonderful – and I thought surely magical – Victorianesque nightlight. I was mesmerised by it, and imagined an entire world behind the frosted window panes. My grandmother discovered me sitting there in the darkness, and whilst I don’t remember what happened next, I am sure I was smartly (though not unkindly) sent back to my room.
Your grandson may not, in future, be able to recall events from that morning; nevertheless, the time spent with his grandparents will become part of his being, as we all carry something of our ancestors – not just their DNA.

  2. Interesting research, by both you and the academic, and a good image. I do not know when I last used a bunk bed. If I leave the bed, Bluebell often takes my place. All your grandchildren have very good families, and it is great to see them making their own choices.
