Fascinating Ant. How strange that this seems to be the oldest known civilisation apart from the Mesopotamian one. As I understand it, two waves of modern humans pulsed out from the African savannah . It’s easy to see why they should have settled and established the first (known) complex, functioning sociey in Mespotamia. But the runner-up in Orkney? That does seem a stretch! Couldn’t they have found somewhere a bit warmer, more hospitable and nearer to hand? Much, doubtless, remains to be discovered.
