My father has sworn by, what he calls, a power nap, for years. A quick, 10 minute recharge of the batteries, as it were, and carry on as though one knows what one is doing. And, of course, there is, as part of many cultures, a ‘siesta’ embedded into daily life’s rituals.
Time is irrelevant when one is asleep. The sense of time stretches and warps. Was I really asleep for forty minutes, or was it only the intended 10 minutes? Or, the nights when I awaken feeling I did not sleep at all, but know i must have in fact done so…
Love the pun on the back of the delivery lorry. It would have made my day.
Wonderful detective work as ever Ant. I rather like Dr Kitchener’s advice, particularly about the beer wine and rum, ( though I suspect my wife might object!). Forty winks or about a half hour’s midday slumber seems to divide opinion strongly. Some people say it doesn’t work for them at all. I find it almost indispensable, otherwise I stumble around in “a semi-superannuated state” as he so eloquently puts it. Mind you, if I drink less I probably need the nap less.
Another good episode, Ant. Well done.

I am all in favour of forty winks. Not so much of faulty winks. Sometimes, just closing my eyes for 15 seconds can help.
